ASSR (Auditory Steady State Response) is an objective electrophysiological hearing test that uses continuous, frequency-specific stimuli to estimate hearing thresholds at specific frequencies (500 Hz, 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz, 4000 Hz).
Unlike BERA, which provides a general threshold estimate, ASSR gives frequency-specific thresholds that closely correlate with behavioural audiogram results — making it invaluable for hearing aid fitting in infants.
ASSR can test both ears simultaneously and is particularly useful for estimating thresholds in cases of profound hearing loss where BERA may not provide reliable results.
